Hello! This was our first week of actual production, meaning that we finally started producing the final game.

Art

During this week of working on the project I have decided to start creating our own assets as we used placeholders to get a general idea of how the game, and the level will look like. To start of I have decided to start to model the basic assets: trees, rocks and gravestones. First of all I have looked at real life references, after that I have checked out stylized and low poly references of the assets that were modeled by other people. Trying out different techniques of how to create those assets I found the best way to create a dead tree. Yet, I am not satisfied with the rocks yet but I have decided to let them be tested by my teammates to wait for their opinions. I created 2 different kind of gravestones, but if none of them are approved by my team I will re-do them. This applies for every asset. Unwrap has been done as well.

Furthermore I have created 2 Master Materials. One that includes textures, and one that includes only color options.

Additionally, I have created a Cel Shader that is working on chosen objects. This will be used for the characters mainly.

Programming

For the programming, we have been focussing on refactoring and improving the code we had in our prototypes, making sure it is much more scalable and fit for the larger project overall. Furthermore, we improved the setups we had (such as some of the classes we were using being derived from the same base class but not from each other even while they could have been). And while still currently work in progress, we are completely reworking how the enemy worked to be more straight forward and using better systems where applicable.

Sound

For audio, this week started off by setting up all the needed projects and setting up the folder structure within unreal engine. Different assets such as metasounds, actual audio assets, attenuation presets etc… all need proper naming and foldering to get the project up and running smoothly. After this, I went ahead and started sound designing. Creating good sfx takes time and intricacy. From selecting the proper samples to layering things correctly, to properly gluing and mixing every layer together. These aspects are integral to creating a satisfying and qualitative experience, and to satisfying my creatively hungry spirit. After creating a few sound effects I went ahead to starting on the music. I picked a fitting track from a library, and split it into its stems. I split up the percussion as well, then created a nice seemless loop to use in game. Finally, I designed a nice ambient soundscape to fill up the atmosphere and background of the game. That was it for this week, see ya!
